How to use Shopify metafields
Static product pages that look the same for every item? They don't have to. With Shopify metafields you store structured product data – e.g. care instructions, technical specs, materials or sizing details – directly in the Shopify backend and output it in the theme editor exactly where your customers need it.

What are metafields?
Metafields are additional, structured data fields for your products. Instead of copying standard text onto every product, you maintain the info once on the product itself – and your theme pulls it automatically. Rule of thumb: product data belongs on the product, not in the theme editor. That saves you from endless product templates.
Step 1: Create a metafield definition
In the Shopify admin under Settings → Custom data (Metafields) → Products, create a definition: name, namespace/key and content type (text, rich text, number, file …).
Step 2: Fill in the data on the product
Then fill in the fields directly in the product overview or on the individual product – quickly and without touching the theme. Every product gets its own, fitting content.
Step 3: Connect it dynamically in the theme editor
Connect sections and blocks (accordions, tabs, tables, text blocks) to your metafields via dynamic sources. One layout – any number of individual product pages. You can control images and entire sections this way, too.
Why it's worth it
- Higher conversion: open questions answered right on the product page.
- Fewer returns: customers know exactly what they're getting.
- Clean layout: no more copied standard text.
