How bundle & upsell discounts work

Sectionheroes can automatically discount your Bundles, Upsells and quantity offers right in the cart. This guide explains how those discounts are applied, where you set them up, and (most importantly) how to make your own Shopify discount codes stack with them.

Discounts apply automatically, no code needed

Sectionheroes discounts run through a native Shopify discount (a "Shopify Function"). When a shopper's cart matches one of your offers, whether they add a bundle, accept an upsell, or reach a quantity threshold, the discount is applied automatically in the cart and at checkout.

👉 Your customers do not type in a discount code for this to work. It shows up in the order as an automatic discount.

What the app can discount

For each Bundle, Upsell or Quantity offer you can choose:

• Percentage off (e.g. 15%)
• Fixed amount off (e.g. 5.00)
• Free gift: a product added at 100% off

You set the type and value directly in the Bundle / Upsell editor inside the app. There's nothing to create manually on Shopify's Discounts page. Sectionheroes handles that for you.

⭐ Combining with your own discount codes (the important part)

Shopify has one strict rule: two discounts only stack if BOTH are set to allow it.

By default, new Shopify discount codes are set to not combine with anything. So if you run your own code (e.g. WELCOME10) on top of a Sectionheroes bundle discount, Shopify applies only one of them, not both. This is the #1 reason a code "doesn't work" together with a bundle.

The Sectionheroes discount is already set to be combinable (with product, order and shipping discounts). So you only need to fix your side.

Make your discount combinable (in your Shopify admin):

1. Open Discounts and select your code (or automatic discount).
2. Scroll to the Combinations section ("This discount can be combined with…").
3. Tick Product discounts. (The Sectionheroes bundle/upsell discount is a product discount, so this checkbox is what lets them stack.)
4. Click Save.

Do this for every code you want to run alongside your bundle/upsell offers. Once Product discounts is enabled on your code, Shopify applies both your code and the Sectionheroes discount together.

💡 Even if your code is an order discount (amount off the whole order) or a free shipping discount, you still tick Product discounts here. That's the class our discount belongs to.

Why discounts sometimes don't stack

• Your code isn't combinable: enable Product discounts on it (steps above). This fixes it in the vast majority of cases.
• Another app or automatic discount is competing: make sure that one is also set to combine with product discounts.
• The offer conditions aren't met yet: the discount only appears once the cart actually matches the offer (right products, quantity, and so on).
• The offer or code is paused or in draft: make sure both are active.

Good to know

• The Sectionheroes discount is automatic. Customers never see or enter a code for it.
• You can absolutely run your own codes on top. They just need to be combinable (above).
• Changing an offer's discount in the app takes effect immediately. You don't need to touch Shopify's Discounts page.
